Belgrade University celebrates its 95th anniversary
Belgrade, February 28th - One of the oldest institutions of Serbian culture, science and spirituality that has always shared the destiny of its people and country, marks today its 95th anniversary, said the Belgrade University rector, Jagos Puric, at today's celebration at the Rector's Office Building.

Rector Puric said that when it was founded in 1905, the Belgrade University has had only three faculties, and now it includes some 30 faculties, as well as numerous scientific institutes and centers.

Mr. Puric added that more than 300,000 students graduated from the University, some 20,000 finished their postgraduates, and more than 10,000 received doctorates. Some 70 eminent professors and scientists from all over the world received honorary doctorates of the Belgrade University.

Republic Minister of Education, professor Jevrem Janjic, pointed out that the achievements of the University thus far justified its existence, to the honor of Serbian and Montenegrin people, which obligates everyone to put his efforts and struggle for science and education to become a priority.
