Archpriest Hristodoulo: Protect people and holy sites in Kosovo-Metohija February 28, 2000
"We are asking you to use your influence to protect the people and holy sites, and do everything in your power to re-establish peace, justice and tolerance in this area", reads the archpriest's appeal addressed to Bill Clinton, international organizations (NATO, OSCE, EU, Council of Europe, UNESCO…), as well as to political and religious leaders of the countries whose troops are part of the peacekeeping forces in Kosovo-Metohija. The same message was sent to the World Churches Council and European Churches Conference, with a special note that since the arrival of KFOR some 400 Serbs were killed, 600 kidnapped and more than 200,000 expelled or forced to flee. "Since the arrival of the international peacekeeping forces to Kosovo-Metohija, more than 80 orthodox churches and monasteries were destroyed, among which the medieval historical and cultural monuments", reads the appeal and stresses that the perpetrators of these crimes have never been on trial, nor has anyone been punished in any way. |
